This publication presents an ontology-based framework designed to address the complexities of international data transfers and ensure compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and related regulations. It emphasizes the challenges faced by IT industry players, particularly in dynamic scenarios like cloud brokerage and cloud/edge operations, where constant monitoring and adherence to evolving legal rules are essential. The work introduces a new ontology called CIDaTa, which semantically models various concepts related to international data transfers and leverages existing ontologies. It establishes 54 connections between these ontologies, following the Linked Data paradigm, to facilitate compliance with current regulations and navigate recent legal developments, such as the Schrems II decision.
