This session aims to bring together 5 Horizon Europe projects (Glaciation, MobiSpaces, Tango, Teadal and Trustee) working on “Technologies and solutions for compliance, privacy preservation, green and responsible data operations” (https://ec.europa.eu/info/funding-tenders/opportunities/portal/screen/opportunities/topic-details/horizon-cl4-2021-data-01-01). All these projects are expected to contribute towards improving the efficiency and the use of trustworthy digital technologies to address the requirements of citizens, companies and administrations/public organisations on privacy and commercial and administrative confidentiality as well as responsible, fair and environmentally friendly (e.g. in terms of energy/carbon/material footprint) data operations in data spaces, across the data life cycle.
The projects are shaping with their contributions the future of Data Spaces, a concept included in the European Data Strategy (https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/policies/strategy-data) and defined as secure and trusted environments for the exchange, sharing, and use of data. Several Coordination and Support Actions (CSAs) aim to pave the way for the deployment of data spaces across different sectors. These CSAs are already operating and are supported by the Data Spaces Support Center (https://dssc.eu/) which aims to explore the needs of data space initiatives, define common requirements and establish best practices to accelerate their formation.
Objectives of the session
This session aims to endorse the digital technologies, methods, architectures and processes implemented by the projects for offering a user-friendly, safe, trustworthy, compliant, fair, transparent, accountable and environmentally sustainable collection, storage, processing, querying, analytics and delivery of data. Within this context, this session will illustrate:
- how sharing and manipulation of data in compliance with prevailing and emerging legislation (e.g. GDPR) for data processors and data subjects/right holders and other stakeholders should be facilitated,
- the technologies and solutions which should enable safe and secure data handling, sharing and re-use in the context of common European data spaces in various situations and application areas,
- the combination of technological and social innovation, technologies and solutions that enable environmentally sustainable data operations as well as technologies and solutions for ensuring human, fair and ethically sound collection, processing and manipulation of data, in line with the principles of responsible/trustworthy AI.
Description of the session
After a short introduction from the session organizers, there will be a short presentation by the Data Spaces Support Centre to introduce the intersection points between the HE projects and the Data Space Initiatives and set-up the scene.
This will be followed by a panel discussion, which will be a roundtable of representatives from the 5 HE Projects (Glaciation, MobiSpaces, Tango, Teadal, Trustee) that will be able to elaborate on their work from several perspectives, including technical, governance, operational aspects.
The session will finish with a recap, takeovers and next steps.
